Profile: Pollianna Adams (AFSCME Local 1560)

Pollianna has worked for Muscatine Community Schools for about ten years. As a Food Service Worker and as a Custodian, she prepares meals for Muscatine students and makes sure they have a safe and clean learning environment.

Pollianna was a Girl Scout in her younger years. When her eldest daughter expressed interest in joining the Girl Scouts, she was thrilled. To support her daughter’s troop, she became more and more involved over the years. She started volunteering at scouting activities and later became the treasurer of her daughter’s troop. When her daughter’s troop needed a new troop leader, she stepped up to the plate.

As troop leader, she helps the girls plan their meetings, helps her scouts prepare for major events such as Girl Scout Day at the Capitol, takes photos at Girl Scout events like the father-daughter dance and the mother-daughter tea, and assists with service unit outings. She also has major responsibilities when it comes to cookie sales. She coordinates cookie sales for her troop and is in charge of all booth sales in Muscatine. This requires building relationships with businesses in order to secure permission to sell cookies at their stores.

One of the accomplishments she is most proud of is her troop’s anti-bullying events.

Today, both of her daughters are active and energetic Girl Scouts. One is a Cadet and the other is a Daisy.

“I know that by being active in the Girl Scouts, I can make a difference in the lives of these girls. Girl Scouts teaches girls the valuable lesson that they can accomplish anything if they believe in themselves and stay focused on following their dreams. I always try to teach the girls to be themselves. I want the girls to know that they can count on me to be there for them whenever they need guidance and advice.”
